It’s Okay to be Single

It’s okay to be single, even when it’s February and everywhere you look cupid is poised with his little arrow, ads for engagement rings abound,  and there are nothing but wedding fairs every weekend.

Being single is still not considered an acceptable alternative to coupling up, it should be but for whatever reason society expects people to find a mate – even if they won’t stay with them for too long.

Being single during Valentine’s Day can be even more difficult, but it doesn’t have to be. Just remind yourself that it’s okay to be single and here’s why:

Options – When you’re single the world is your oyster. You aren’t tied down to any decision yet so make the best of it and do some sampling. There are a lot of great people out there just waiting to meet you, be thankful you aren’t limited to meeting them because you are in a relationship already.

Sleeping Alone – Sure it’s fun to have adult activities in bed but when it comes to sleeping, it’s nice to have the whole bed to yourself. You don’t need to worry about keeping someone awake because of your snoring and you can set the temperature the way you like it. Bonus – you won’t wake up freezing because someone stole all the covers. Extra Bonus – you can cuddle with your fur babies all you want.

Dress Your Way – If you want to wear sweats for the entire weekend while binge watching Breaking Bad that is your business. If you want to wear a short skirt, no one is going to suggest you dress just a little more conservatively. You can wear whatever you want so break out those holy sweats and enjoy the weekend!

No Shaving – When you’re single you don’t have to worry about shaving anything. Take a break from the razor, wax or epilator. Bonus – you’ll feel warmer during the cold months!

Self Awareness – Being single gives you time to work on yourself. You can take the time to get to know what makes you tick, what you like and what you don’t like. Learning those things about yourself make you a much better person to be with when you choose to be in a relationship.

Explore your Passions – Take that cooking class you’ve been interested in, travel a foreign country by yourself, take up painting! The sky is the limit when you don’t have to consider the likes and dislikes of someone else.

Exes – When you’re in a relationship it can be awkward or even difficult to maintain friendships with past lovers. When you’re single you can enjoy these friendships free from jealousy or hurt egos.

Because it Doesn’t Matter – It doesn’t matter what other people think, if you want to be single that is exactly what you should be. Being a great person has nothing to do with who you are in a  relationship with. Be the best you and don’t worry what anyone else thinks.
