Eating Disorder Treatment: Dine Monte Nido of Chicago

For those recovering from an eating disorder eating out can be a scary thing to contemplate. Many people will avoid social engagements because they don’t feel ready to eat in the company of others. Food has been so complicated, a battle if you will, for those with eating disorders that doing it in front of friends or loved ones can be terrifying. In fact many fear the simple act of dining with friends is enough to trigger the eating disorder behaviors. Because of this fear many people will avoid social eating altogether.

That’s no way to live and the more someone isolates them self the harder it is to maintain social ties. Dine Monte Nido of Chicago is a recovery tool for those who are interested in dining out again but who fear the process.

Locus Therapy is now partnering with Dine Monte Nido of Chicago.

Dine Monte Nido is an eating disorder meal support group located in Chicago, IL.  The group takes place over a meal with other group members and eating disorder specialists including Anna Lamden of Locus Therapy and Michel Harris, RD a registered and licensed dietician for over 15 years.

The purpose of Dine Monte Nido is to provide individuals who are in the recovery process an opportunity to learn how to eat in social situations without triggering any of the behaviors associated with the eating disorder and if triggered how to manage those intense feelings without falling back on old habits.

Dine Monte Nido meets everything Thursday evening from 5:30 – 8:30pm. The group time includes dining together and processing the dining experience in group therapy in a caring, supportive environment. Group activities may include eating at a restaurant, ordering food in, and processing these experiences with the support of a trained clinician. Our group program also helps give you the tools you need to successfully navigate the pressures of the week and real-life outside of treatment.

Dine Monte Nido takes a strength based approach to facilitate those who are working to make a change and are seeking a full recovery from an eating disorder. Dine provides a caring environment around food and social eating. The Dine group meals take place in intentionally mindful environments. The settings are warm and inviting which can help facilitate engagement with those who participate and are looking for recovery from an eating disorder.

Dine Monte Nido is not a replacement for your current therapy and believes you should continue care with your current therapist while participating in Dine. Dine holds to the belief that your therapist knows you intimately and deeply and that relationship should remain consistent if there is to be a full recovery from your eating disorder. Dine provides added support, it is not a replacement for outpatient eating disorder therapy. If you do not currently have an eating disorder therapist we can help you find one.
